Must Make Monday 5.22

Welcome back to Must Make Monday! We hope you were inspired by The Old Town Handmade Society’s Me Made May Event last Saturday, either in person or on Instagram. All of us at fibre space and Stitch Sew Shop were truly thrilled to see your “me made” items; thank you for continuing to inspire us! Now let’s keep that good feeling going with this week’s Must Make Monday:

Today we bring you the Darwin Shawl by verybusymonkey, paired with the simple but classic Willow Tank from Grainline Studios. The possibilities are endless! The Willow Tank is shown here with the Alberta Street Pencil Skirt from Sew House Seven. This tank is so versatile, you can wear it with any skirt, shorts or pants you already have in your wardrobe. Or, you can get enough fabric to make the Willow Dress instead!

Let’s start with the shawl: We stitched up this beautiful and unique design using Hazel Knits Entice in the Pine Forest colorway. If you haven’t had a chance to try out this luscious yarn, this would be the perfect project to give it a whirl. This truly yummy fingering-weight yarn is made from 70% merino, 20% goat cashmere, and 10% nylon, and it’s like butter, I tell you. One big wheel will give you enough yarn to make this stunning pattern. This photo from the Ravelry pattern page shows the shawl in all its glorious detail:

Next up is the tank: The Willow Tank Dress is one of the most popular patterns in the sewing world, and with good reason. Easy to fit all body types, and easy enough to finish in an afternoon! It’s minimalist design makes it the ideal pattern to showcase a truly special fabric.

We made the tank out of an Art Gallery Cotton print called “Painting Celebration” from the Bound Collection by April Rhodes. This fabric is light yet crisp, similar in feel and weight to a cotton lawn. It also has some great metallic accents that are better seen in person. Come into Stitch to see and feel it for yourself!  You can click here and here for more inspiration, or just keep on a-scrolling:

Additional fabrics from the Bound Collection – they would all make great Willow Tanks!

The colors in this collection are gorgeous – several of the Hazel Knits Entice Yarn Big Wheels pair beautifully with these fabrics. Shown here are Frost, Conch, & Lichen colorways.

As always, the Yarnistas and Shop Girls are happy to help you find the perfect fabric and yarn for your projects. If you do make these projects and share them on social media, please use these hashtags so we can see your makes! #mustmakemonday #fibrespace #sewwithstitch

Happy Stitching!
